How Fixed on Fitness turned check-ins into a retention engine
15.62 check-ins per member
180 members, run by two
90-day nurture on autopilot
7-day at-risk list

Kenzie Presnell can tell you exactly how consistent her members are, because PushPress counted for her: 15.62 check-ins per member, the highest average of any gym in the 2023 PushPress Check-In Challenge.
Fixed on Fitness in Milton, FL is a strength and conditioning and functional bodybuilding facility. It started as an outdoor bootcamp before Presnell opened the current location in 2008. Roughly 180 members train there, and Presnell runs the whole operation with her husband as what she calls a two-man team.
A year after switching to PushPress, the follow-up that used to depend on her memory runs on its own, and she has the attendance data to prove the culture she built is real.
The Problem
Software that failed at the worst possible moment
Over the years Presnell tried every gym CRM software under the sun. Some were not user-friendly. Others simply did not work well.
"You know, someone might go to sign a waiver and the system would crash."
Follow-up that depended on remembering
Two people running a gym full of classes means the admin work happens in the gaps, and the gaps are small. Leads fell through the cracks, and Presnell says the conversion rate showed it.
"We're running classes all day. So I very rarely would remember to text someone that came in for their trial class until a day later."
Check-ins nobody enforced
Plenty of members did not reserve a spot or check in for class, and Presnell let it slide. Without that data there was no way to see who was drifting.
"Did they check in? Or did we make sure they checked in? Not always."
The Solution
Grow doing the follow-up she used to do by hand
Presnell switched to PushPress about a year before this was written. Trial clients now get their check-in the moment class ends rather than a day later, and PushPress Grow carries a prospect from first contact through to membership.
"Grow is my favorite part about PushPress. Just the constant communication (with leads and members); It takes a lot of steps away from me that I don't have to deal with, like the follow-up and the texts. We were doing all of that manually before."
The 90-day workflow
The first 90 days decide whether a new member stays. Grow's 90-day workflow runs email and text nurture across that whole window, sharing information and celebrating check-ins along the way.
"It really helps pull people into the community."
An at-risk list she actually uses
Seven days without a visit and a member lands on a list Presnell can text from directly.
"I use that feature in Grow all the time. If they haven't been here in seven days, I just populate them in a list and that way I can shoot them a text. 'Hey making sure everything's okay.'"
A challenge that changed member habits
Signing up for the Check-In Challenge gave Presnell a reason to ask members to check in on their phones before class. It stuck. Patchy check-in data turned into reliable check-in data, which is what makes the at-risk list work in the first place.
Result
15.62 check-ins per member
The highest average of any gym in the 2023 PushPress Check-In Challenge. Fixed on Fitness was one of two winners, alongside 2020FIT in Prairie Village, KS, which took the volume prize with 4,427 check-ins in a single month.
A higher conversion rate on new leads
Presnell credits the Grow automations for lifting the gym's conversion rate. Prospects get worked from the moment they reach out, rather than whenever she happens to remember.
Attendance she can manage against
"It helps for our retention. I can see how many days a week people are here. And we really try to get our members in four days a week. Because we know that if they're showing up regularly, the likelihood of them staying for a long period of time is really high."
Conclusion
The win told Presnell something she could not learn from inside her own gym.
"I feel like our members are very regular and very consistent. But I didn't have anything to really compare our gym to as far as, what does attendance look like in other gyms. So it was nice to see they really are consistent."
One more thing she wanted on the record, about her first few months on the software:
"Y'all stay on top of us the first few months."
