Run Your New Gym Faster With Software Without Paying Large Fees
Starting a gym can feel like a catch 22.
You need professional tools to provide great service so that your business will be profitable, but you’re not yet making enough money to afford those tools.
Gym-management software is one of those tools. You could wing it—pasting your programming into a spreadsheet, managing your billing and documentation manually, chasing checks every month—or you could buy a system you can’t afford and pray your revenue catches up with your expenses one day.
Or you could do what Marcus Reyna, owner of Elevated Fitness, did: sign up for PushPress Free.
“It was kind of a no-brainer,” he said.

What You Get
PushPress Free is just what it sounds like: PushPress, but $0/month.

The system is designed for smaller gyms, studios and fitness professionals that bill less than $14,000 per month, and there’s no monthly fee. We call it “pay as grow” because small gyms shouldn’t have to pay for things they don’t yet need.
Still, with access to 14 out of 16 native PushPress apps, PushPress Free users enjoy an experience much like the pro version.
There’s the check-in app, which enables clients to check themselves in for classes on a gym tablet. The app automatically verifies that the member has an active plan, ensures he or she has signed a waiver and subtracts the class from the client’s class count.
There’s the screens app, which displays the class roster, coach, schedule and workout.
The store app allows gym owners to create and price custom products and enables members to self-service their purchases. Members can pre-order products or RSVP for events via the member app, as well as access their billing information and important documents. Owners can organize workouts by track, schedule appointments, waitlist clients and bill automatically.
Users get all of this at no monthly charge; the only fees you’ll pay are a 1 percent premium on top of your country’s standard ACH and credit-card processing fees. That way, by the time you’re ready to upgrade to pro—when you’re billing more than $13,900 a month—you’ll actually save money when you trade the processing-fee premium for the standard monthly fee.
Why would PushPress offer such a thing? Because we’re part of the fitness community, too, and we want gym owners to succeed.
“We are doing this to help gym owners,” wrote CEO Dan Uyemura. “We care about this community deeply.”

Erick Peterson of CrossFit Constant Conditioning uses PushPress Free
Empowering New and Small Gyms
Before PushPress Free, Reyna kept track of everything in his head. He and his wife are personal trainers running Elevated Fitness, a Discovery Bay gym operating out of their garage, and it wasn’t so hard to manage billing and scheduling when they had only one or two clients.
But at 13 clients, things got “completely hectic,” Reyna said.
Some clients paid in cash; others via Venmo. Some forgot to pay; others swore they paid for that last session three weeks ago. Reyna spent most of his time chasing payments and resolving disputes with compromises, losing time and revenue in the process.
He knew a gym-management system would solve his problems, but at a couple hundred bucks a month, the cost was prohibitive. PushPress Free has made it possible for him to level up his business without breaking the bank.
“For the smallest of businesses like we are, that’s just such a huge burden to take off that up-front monthly fee,” he said.
Without that monthly bill, Reyna has been able to put more money toward equipment and growing his business. But even more significantly, the automatic billing has plugged the leaky bucket of missed client payments.
“As a new business owner, it’s never easy or fun to ask people for money,” he said. “Being able to have it streamlined … takes a lot of pressure off of me.”
Erick Peterson, owner of CrossFit Constant Conditioning (a CrossFit gym in Courtenay, British Columbia), also appreciates the cost-saving measures of PushPress Free. At just about 40 members, his gym is small, too—and for Canadian gyms like his, financial burdens weigh even heavier.
At the current exchange rate of 0.75 U.S. dollars to one Canadian dollar, the cost of a typical gym-management software equates to almost two full memberships at CrossFit Constant Conditioning—“a big chunk for a little gym,” Peterson said.
PushPress Free eliminates that problem—and what’s more, the transaction fees are charged in Canadian dollars.
Now, he says he has more resources to direct toward marketing.
“Being able to focus the money into that has made a difference and (there have been) lots of new faces coming in, so that’s really nice,” he said. “We wouldn’t have had that option; we would’ve been just spending it on software otherwise.”
Joe Morrone, owner of Converse CrossFit, has had a similar experience. After switching from a competing software to PushPress Free, he’s been able to redirect those funds to equipment upgrades and record a profit.
“PushPress is, I think, one of the biggest contributors to why I’ve gotten to take a vacation last year and another one coming up in the first quarter this year, why I take home a paycheck every two weeks now and why my business shows a profit on paper,” the Converse, TX Gym owner said. “PushPress has helped me make money.”

No Second Class
PushPress Free may be free, but it’s not second class. While pro customers have access to priority support, PushPress Free customers say their customer-service needs are met and then some.
“I didn’t even know that,” Peterson said of the pro priority status. “Any time I’ve sent in a ticket or requested information because I was lost, it’s pretty much within 20 minutes I’ve got answers.”
“The instant communication with (the PushPress) team to get things going has made integrating PushPress and building it out amazing,” he said. “It’s a lot easier when I can just do my other work and in 10 to 15 minutes I’ve got an answer to a question as opposed to having to wait two, three days for someone to call you back.”
And though PushPress Free customers don’t have access to extra integrations like member workout tracking, email marketing or Ianding pages, users agree that the free system ensures that when the time is right to upgrade, they’ll be ready.
“For us, it’s still not a problem because we are small enough that those other integrations aren’t critical,” Peterson said. “At the point that it would make financial sense to switch over to the paid version, that’s gonna be when all those things are needed.”
“Instead of paying for a whole bunch of stuff I don’t need right now, I’m able to build out the system one step at a time while planning all the pieces I want to fit together before I launch pro and start integrating all that stuff,” Morrone said.
