Putting in the Reps: What Changed at PushPress in Q3

TL;DR

Q3 brought 280+ fixes and improvements to PushPress:

  • Booking: 46 fixes, covering 90% of known booking issues, with a rework of appointment credits shipping soon
  • Check-in: 34 fixes and improvements, including one-tap check-in from a list of regulars in kiosk mode
  • Billing: 45 fixes, a rebuilt Payments Forecast Report, and new safeguards on membership changes
  • Signups: a beta for new mobile-first trial and drop-in signup pages with Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • Core: nearly all of Core now runs on a newer, faster foundation

Everything we ship now lives on the PushPress Hub.

Q3 brought 280+ fixes and improvements to PushPress, mostly across booking, check-in, billing, and the apps. Booking is easier to manage, check-in is faster, and billing has clearer tools and new safeguards. We also launched a beta for new trial and drop-in signup pages, reworked how appointment credits work (rolling out soon), and moved 99% of Core onto a newer foundation, finishing work that started in Q1.

Here’s where that work landed and what we’re focused on next.

Everything in this post, plus releases, fixes, the roadmap, and system status, now lives in one place: the PushPress Hub.

Booking is easier to manage

Booking touches a lot of the day-to-day work in a gym, from building the schedule to managing appointments. This quarter, we shipped 46 booking fixes, addressing 90% of known booking issues.

Recurring classes and appointments now book months in advance, canceling a series and all future dates works the way it should, and appointment search loads quickly, even for gyms with large client lists.

Next up is a change to how appointment credits work. When it ships (soon!), a member’s credit will be held when they book and applied only after the session happens, so credits you see match the sessions that actually take place.

If your gym actively uses appointment credits, sign up to test the updated experience and share feedback before it rolls out more widely.

Faster check-ins

We worked across every check-in path in Q3, from Staff App kiosk mode to the Members App and Core, to make check-in easier for members and staff, shipping 34 check-in fixes and improvements along the way.

Staff App kiosk mode can now show a list of regulars, the people who’ve come to that class time in the last 30 days, so members can check in with one tap instead of searching for their name. Parents can create a sub-account for their child right at kiosk checkout. When a member reaches a Committed Club or belt milestone, kiosk mode now celebrates it at check-in.

We also cleaned up the kiosk itself. It no longer logs staff out during a shift, members don’t get kicked out partway through signing, someone with several documents signs once instead of once per document, and search matches on names and leaves out inactive and former members.

Since every front desk works a little differently, a setting to turn the regulars list on or off is coming soon.

Clearer billing, fewer headaches

Our billing work this quarter focused on making payments easier to track and common membership changes easier to manage.

The rebuilt Payments Forecast Report puts this month’s, next month’s, and overdue payments in one place. Invoice pages load faster and now include bulk actions and partial comps, so staff can handle changes without working through every invoice one at a time.

We also added safeguards around common membership changes. Paused memberships can be canceled without reactivating them, price options in use can’t be deleted, and signed documents keep the plan name and price the member agreed to.

We shipped 45 billing fixes in Q3, and strengthening billing infrastructure remains a focus in Q4.

Easier drop-ins and sign-ups

Getting someone from interested to signed up should be simple. We launched a beta for new trial and drop-in signup pages inside Core. A prospect can choose a class, sign a waiver, and pay in a few taps. Their account is created automatically when they book, so there’s no password to set up before they pay.

About 70% of signups happen on a phone, so we built the pages for mobile first, with Apple Pay and Google Pay built in. That helps at the gym too. People don’t always bring a wallet to a workout, so a coach can text a signup link after a trial class and someone can pay from their phone before they leave.

Feedback from beta gyms is helping us handle real-world scenarios like free plans, custom start dates, and what someone sees after signing up.

A better foundation for Core

Nearly all of Core now runs on a newer foundation. Over time, newer areas were built on more modern code while long-standing ones, like invoices, member profiles, reports, and account setup, still ran on the original. This quarter, we finished moving them over.

Getting there was rougher than it should have been, and it changed how we roll out work like this. We now start with a smaller group of gyms, test and adjust before expanding, and publish a weekly fixes list so you can see what we’re addressing.

The payoff is already showing up. Pages on the new foundation load in under a second, adding a member takes a fraction of the time it used to, and the check-in calendar, discounts, and products pages now load almost instantly.

More across PushPress

We also shipped improvements across the rest of the platform. Member Intel now shows a whole-day view of upcoming classes, staff can leave Member Intel Notes from the class roster, members can get push notifications for new social feed posts, and Train program access can be managed directly from the plan editor in Core. In Grow, we improved event capacity, guest checkout, and how leads move through the pipeline.

Still putting in the reps

We kicked off Q4 with a company-wide bug bash, pointing every engineer at the issues that get in the way of running your gym. You’ll see those fixes roll out on the PushPress Hub weekly.

From there, our focus is on making billing even more dependable, simplifying how you communicate with members, and building better tools for bringing in new leads. We’re also exploring new ways to help members feel their progress and connect with your community, and we’d love your input as those ideas take shape.

We also heard that updates were spread across too many places, and that you wanted the newsletter back. In addition to the PushPress Hub, your new destination for releases, fixes, the roadmap, help docs, and system status, we’ve brought back the newsletter and we’ll be launching our new Circle community at the end of October.

We’ll keep sharing progress at Customer Office Hours and listening to what needs attention next. You can add the next Office Hours to your calendar here.
