5 Best Software Options for Programming Daily Gym Workouts (2026)

TL;DR

The best software for programming daily gym workouts depends on whether you run a physical gym or coach remotely. We compared PushPress Train, Wodify, SugarWOD, btwb, and TrainHeroic. Train ranks first for gyms that want programming, billing, and attendance in one system. Wodify is the closest runner-up, but programming is an add-on on every tier and tracking is limited to the top tier. SugarWOD and btwb are standalone trackers, and TrainHeroic fits remote coaches better than gyms. Pricing below was checked in September 2026, and Wodify doesn't publish theirs.

What to Look For in Gym Workout Programming Software

Every tool in this category will let a coach build a workout and let a member log a score. That part is table stakes. Where these platforms actually diverge is in three places most gym owners don't think to check until they're six months into a contract.

Where does the workout data live relative to your membership data? A coach programming Monday's strength cycle has no way of knowing, in that same screen, that the member who just hit a PR is three weeks behind on payment, or that attendance for the 6am class has quietly dropped since the last programming change, unless the workout tool and the membership system are the same system.

Does outside programming import automatically? If you run CrossFit Affiliate Programming, Mayhem, PRVN, HWPO, Invictus, or another partner's programming, the difference between a tool that pulls it in directly and one where a coach retypes the daily WOD by hand is real time, every single day.

"I don't have to add all these extra things to make sure the layout looks good. So the transfer of programming being uploaded to Train is really seamless."
Mitch Harbaugh, General Manager, PRVN Nashville

Is this a standalone workout tool, or a line item inside a bigger platform? Some of these are dedicated programming/tracking apps you layer on top of whatever runs your billing. Others are full gym management platforms where workout tracking is one module among several. Both are legitimate, but they're not the same purchase, and comparing their sticker prices directly is misleading.

Our Evaluation Criteria

  • Workout & programming depth: benchmark tracking, PR detection, affiliate/partner programming imports, format flexibility (classes, personal training, cycles).
  • Data integration: does workout completion connect to membership, attendance, and billing, or live on its own?
  • Pricing & value: what you actually pay at a realistic member/athlete count, not just the teaser tier.
  • Migration: what happens to your existing workout history if you switch.
  • Who it's actually built for: standalone coaches and remote athletes vs. brick-and-mortar gyms running full operations.

1. PushPress Train

PushPress Train is workout tracking and programming built to run inside the same platform as a gym's billing, scheduling, and member management (PushPress Core). Coaches program daily workouts; members log results in the PushPress member app; progress shows up as lifetime PRs, benchmark history (Fran, Murph, custom benchmarks), and attendance streaks, with PRs flagged automatically for coaches to celebrate publicly.

Train pulls affiliate programming directly from CrossFit Affiliate Programming (CAP), Mayhem, HWPO, PRVN, Invictus, Bolder Affiliate, and more so nobody retypes the daily WOD by hand. Because workout completion syncs with Core, it shows up next to membership status, attendance, and retention in one dashboard, which is the gap every standalone tool on this list has by design (they weren't built to solve it).

It also covers formats the pure workout-trackers don't need to think about: group classes, personal training, specialty programs, fixed start dates, progressive cycles, and open-enrollment continuous programs, because it's serving the same gym that's also running its front desk through the same login.

"Members reserve class and log metrics into one app...I got rid of Sugar[WOD] because PushPress tracks workouts."
Kristy H., Owner (G2 review, May 2025)

Pros:

Cons:

  • Built for gyms already running (or planning to run) PushPress Core, so it's not a fit for a fully remote coach with no physical location

Pricing: Starts at $79/mo with unlimited members.

2. Wodify

Wodify is the closest thing to PushPress on this list: a full gym management platform covering billing, class scheduling, client management, and digital waivers, with workout programming layered on top. Programming is an add-on on every tier, and workout tracking is limited to its top tier.

The tradeoff to know going in: workouts aren't part of the core package here. A gym that mainly wants programming and tracking working together has to add programming on whichever tier it picks and move to the top tier to get tracking. Weighing it directly against PushPress? See our PushPress vs Wodify comparison.

Pros:

  • A full gym-management platform with billing, scheduling, and client management in one system
  • Workout tracking is available inside the same platform, at its top tier

Cons:

  • Programming is a paid add-on on every tier
  • Workout tracking is limited to the top tier

Pricing: Not published on Wodify's site. Request a quote to compare at your gym size.

3. SugarWOD

SugarWOD is a standalone workout-tracking and programming app, not a membership or billing platform. Pricing scales with the number of registered athletes rather than a flat per-location fee, and gyms above 250 athletes move to custom pricing (SugarWOD doesn't publish exact per-tier dollar amounts on its site, so get a live quote before comparing). The free trial gives unlimited athletes and workouts for two weeks, and it works for gyms as well as independent athletes logging on their own.

Because it's workout-tracking-only, a gym running SugarWOD needs a separate system for billing and membership, and reconciling PR data against renewal data means exporting from both and lining them up by hand.

Pros:

  • Purpose-built for WOD tracking and leaderboards, with a following in the CrossFit community
  • Usage-based pricing that scales with actual athlete count, not location count
  • iOS and Android member apps

Cons:

  • No billing or membership management; it's a workout layer on top of whatever else you're running
  • Exact pricing isn't published; requires contacting their team to confirm cost at your athlete count

Pricing: Per-registered-athlete, published on sugarwod.com; custom pricing above 250 athletes.

4. btwb (Beyond the Whiteboard)

btwb offers the simplest pricing structure on this list: a Workout Tracking Only gym plan at $15/mo, or an All-In-One plan at $115/mo, plus an Individual plan at $9.99/mo (or $99/yr) for up to 5 members. Every tier includes a 30-day free trial. It's a long-standing name in the CrossFit affiliate world, built around the original "beyond the whiteboard" concept of digitizing what used to live on a gym wall.

At $15/mo, it's the cheapest gym plan on this list, but that tier is workout tracking only, the same standalone-data tradeoff as SugarWOD.

Pros:

  • Lowest entry price of any tool here for pure workout tracking
  • 30-day trial, longer than most competitors offer
  • An all-in-one gym tier exists if you want more than tracking

Cons:

  • Full feature and tier breakdowns for the gym plans aren't fully public; expect to talk to their team for gym-size specifics

Pricing: $15/mo (workout tracking only) to $115/mo (all-in-one, gym plans); $9.99/mo individual plan.

5. TrainHeroic

TrainHeroic is a programming and remote-coaching platform, not a brick-and-mortar gym management tool. It's built around a program builder, athlete messaging, technique video review, and a marketplace for selling programs, squarely aimed at individual coaches and online training businesses rather than a physical gym's day-to-day operations. Pricing is tiered by athlete count, from $9.99/mo for a single athlete up to $399.99/mo at 1,000 athletes (custom pricing above that), with a 14-day free trial and assistant coaches priced at $9.99/mo each.

For a gym owner asking "what software programs my daily class WODs," TrainHeroic is usually the wrong fit. It's solving a different problem (remote 1:1 and small-group coaching businesses), even though it shows up in the same searches.

Pros:

  • Strong for coaches building and selling remote programming
  • Video feedback and real-time messaging built in
  • Flexible, granular athlete-count pricing

Cons:

  • Not built for in-person class scheduling, front-desk operations, or gym billing
  • Per-assistant-coach fee adds up for larger coaching teams

Pricing: $9.99/mo (1 athlete) to $399.99/mo (1,000 athletes); custom above that.

How We Ranked These

Most roundups like this rank on feature checklists. Does it have leaderboards, does it have a mobile app, sure, everyone does by now. We ranked on the question that actually costs gym owners money: does workout data ever talk to membership data, or is that connection something staff rebuild by hand every time an owner asks "are our best-performing members also our members at risk of leaving?" That's the criterion most of these comparisons skip, because most of them are written by people comparing feature lists, not running a front desk. Everything else (affiliate-import support, pricing transparency, who the tool is actually built for) we pulled straight from each vendor's own published pricing page as of September 2026. SaaS pricing moves; confirm current numbers with each vendor before you decide.

Our Top Pick: PushPress Train

If you're running a physical gym and already handling (or planning to handle) billing, scheduling, and member management on one platform, PushPress Train is the best fit on this list: it keeps your workout data in the same system as that operational data, not a separate app you reconcile by hand later. Wodify is the closest runner-up, since it's also a full platform, but programming is an add-on on every tier and tracking is limited to the top one. If you're choosing between the two, our PushPress vs Wodify comparison goes feature by feature. The direct affiliate-programming imports (CAP, Mayhem, HWPO, PRVN, Invictus, Bolder) save real coach time every morning, and included migration from Wodify or SugarWOD removes the usual switching-cost objection. For more on where Train fits in the category, see what makes PushPress Train a leader in the workout tracking app market.

If you're a fully remote coach with no physical location, or you specifically want the cheapest possible standalone WOD tracker and already have billing solved elsewhere, one of the other four tools above may fit better. We tried to be straight about that rather than force-fit every use case.
